Maverick is a custom built 27’ WEST System (cold molded) mahogany runabout built by Hugh Saint Custom Boats in Ft. Meyer Florida.  It is a replica of a Greavette Sheerliner designed by C. Douglas Van Patten between 1937-1939.  Van Patten is widely considered to be one of the most prominent small boat naval architects.  His most prominent designs were the racing boats Miss Canada III and IV.  Between them the two boats set several seed records and won the 1939 Gold Cup.  Maverick is powered by a Crusader Marine 506 c.i. engine using a Chevrolet “big block” as a basis converted to marine use.  The engine has electronic fuel injection and has a “closed loop” cooling system utilizing a heat exchanger and which allows the use of antifreeze and more importantly maintains the optimum 185-degree F coolant temperature. The engine produces 450 horsepower and a top speed of 60 mph with the current propeller.
